Beit Eddine - a magnificent palace built at the beginning of the 19th century by Emir Bechir, who reigned over Lebanon for more than 50 years. With its arcades, galleries and rooms decorated by artists from Damascus, this building is a model of eastern architecture

 Privacy, cooling and security were of the utmost importancewith these features controlling the layout of the houses. Architectural designs of columns, doors, windows and window towers followed the Islamic theme of geometric and floral patterns. Whilst the Al Naboodah house has no windtower, other cooling characteristics are clearly demonstrated.
